57. Gibraltar, United Kingdom
Why Gibraltar, United Kingdom
I’m sure you’ve heard a lot about Gibraltar, but have you really been there? It’s a very interesting place to visit. Just being able to walk across the runway to enter the country should be a good enough “why?” for you.

Where To Stay
When I went to Gibraltar, I actually stayed across the border in Spain as it was a tad pricey to stay in Gibraltar. I stayed at the hotel Miramar (I think)in La Linea right at the Spanish border. Here’s my view. I can see the airport runway and the cruise ship port.

Where To Eat
There is lots to eat on Gibraltar. I really enjoy ice cream, but it was a tad expensive so I passed on it. You will find that Gibraltar is just a tad more pricey than the rest of the U.K. And also, if you take out money from the ATM there, you will get Gibraltar pounds which are actually only legal tender on Gibraltar.

What To Do
I really enjoyed Gibraltar, but that’s because I’m an aviation geek. You can walk across the runway and watch planes land and take off among other things.
You can also take a cable car to the top of the rock, visit the botanical gardens, St. Michael’s Cave and the Mediterranean Steps to name a few.

That’s especially helpful advice about the ATMs! We were there on a day too windy for the cable car, dang it.
Hi Cindy,
You are welcome.
I have to go back and explore some more.
