Why

Köln is one of those Germany cities that you’ll quickly overlook. However you should not as its quiet and quaint. Plus it has great Christmas Markets and a very distinctive Cathedral to view. It’s also the city where myself and a colleague at the time met the pop singer Rihanna while she was having dinner at a local restaurant. This was just after the release of her first album.

Where

Köln or Cologne is located in the north of Germany just south of Hamburg and southeast of Bremen.

Where To Stay

Cologne has no shortage hotels and the price range runs the gamut. I’ve stayed at the Pullman by Accor as well as the Hilton Cologne and also the Ibis at the train station. All great accommodations and within walking distance of everything.

Where To Eat

There are many restaurants around the city. Plus, you can find eats at the train station. There’s currywurst, pommes (french fries) everywhere of course. There’s also a lot of places from which you can have pastry which is perfect for breakfast and very German.

What To Do

The main thing to see in Cologne is the Cologne Cathedral. And yes, you can climb to the top; its quite the climb and if you are not a fan of narrow spaces, then its not recommended. But the view is spectacular of course.

Cologne is also famous for Christmas Markets. There’s about seven or so of them around the city. Ensure that you walk around the city as the shopping is spectacular as well and you’ll always find hidden gems.
