Lamego is a small town that sits on the Douro River. The views of the river alone is a huge draw to this town.
Lamego is located along the Douro River east of Porto, Portugal.
How To Get Here
You can take a train from Porto to Regua on the Douro Valley Railway, the closest train station and then take a local bus from the station to Lamego. The Regua train station is old and beautiful and so is the journey.
Lamego does not have its own airport, the closest is Porto’s Francisco de Sá Carneiro Airport which is located in Pedras Rubras, Moreira da Maia.

There are many cruise ships that goes down the Douro River stopping at Lamego.
If you are already in Europe you can take the drive. Just use a service like Google Maps for directions. It’s about three hours drive.

I stayed at the Hotel Lamego, but there are other places to stay in this small town. A combination of hotels, lodges and bed and breakfasts.

Where To Eat
There are many places to eat in Lamego, pick one that’s to your liking and taste. Dining is done a little later than you may be accustomed to.
What To Do
The main attraction here is Santuario Nossa Senhora dos Remedios, which are the steps up to the Cathedral. You can also go wine tasting to any of the many vineyards as well as take a ride down the Douro River.
