Why
This is one of the hidden gems of Peru. It’s beaches, local markets, eating, surfing, whale watching and doing nothing but hang out on the beach.

Where
Mancora is located just over the Ecuadoran border past Tumbes, Peru and one of the west most cities in Peru. The closest larger town is Piura, Peru, which in of itself is another unfamiliar destination that will give you a taste of Peruvian culture.

How To Get Here
This destination takes quite a while to get to and its multi-modal, i.e. you have to take different modes of transportation to get here. When I went, I took a plane to another plane and then to a local scooter and then a bus.
By Train
Not accessible by train.
By Plane
The closest airport Talara, Capitán FAP Víctor Montes Arias International Airport (TYL), I flew into Piura, Peru though since I’d flown into Lima and the flight times worked. Like many Peruvian airports it has a long name; Capitán FAP Guillermo Concha Iberico International Airport (PIU) to be exact. You can first fly into Lima, Peru and then take a flight to Piura. There is also air service to Tumbes, Capitán FAP Pedro Canga Rodríguez Airport (TBP).

By Bus
You can take a series of buses from Lima, but it will take you along time. You should fly to Talara, Tumbes or Piura. In Piura take a cab or a three-wheeled scooter to the bus station and then take the bus from there to Mancora. In the other two cities, take a cab, vans or buses to Mancora.

By Car
If you are already in the region you can take the drive. Just use a service like Google Maps for directions.

Where To Stay
There are a number of small hotels and bed and breakfasts places in Mancora. Some just have the beach literally at your doorsteps.

Where To Eat
There are many local places in Mancora. Just watch what you eat and ensure that its cooked properly before you eat it. There is also a market and people selling lots of fruits and coconuts on the roadside. The coconuts are quite good and so are the fruits.

What To Do
