Why Ollantaytambo, Peru
Not as famous as Machu Picchu or Cusco, but equally deserving of a visit.
Ollantaytambo, Peru is located just northwest of Cusco in the valley of the Andes. Despite its location though it sits at 9,160′ (2,792m).
How To Get Here
You can take the train on Perurail to Ollyantayambo from Cusco or Aguas Caliente.
Cusco has its own airport, the Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUZ). It’s best to book departing flights in the morning as the afternoon flights are sometimes weight restricted due to the altitude.

You won’t find any of the large chain hotels here in Ollantaytambo, what you’ll find are small lodgings and inns with a local feeling which is very quaint.
