258. Solitaire, Namibia

Why

As small as small towns get this is it. This used to be the place where most who come to this area of Namibia get their supplies. Another place has opened up in Sesriem just south of here, but its still a place to stop. It also has accommodations as well in case you are tired and can’t make the entire trip. Plus the apple crumb pie is pretty amazing at the onsite Bakery.

Solitaire is located in the southern part of Namibia north of Sesriem and southwest of Rehoboth..

How To Get Here

By Train

There is no rail service to this area..

By Plane

The nearest commercial airport is the Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH), home to Air Namibia (SW).

Air France (AF), British Airways (BA), Condor (DE), Delta Air Lines (DL), Ethiopian Airlines (ET), Eurowings (EW), KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL), Qatar Airways (QR), SW, South African Airways (SA) and TAAG ANGOLA AIRLINES (DT).

By Bus

There are no buses to this area.

By Car

If you are already in the region you can take the drive. Just use a service like Google Maps for directions.

By Safari

This is the best way to experience Solitaire. I worked with Wild Dog Safaris and did a camping trip which stopped in the small town to enjoy what it has to offer.

There is a Lodge right here to welcome you with open arms.

 

Where To Eat

There is a bakery and a restaurant here. The bakery is famous for its apple pie which is really quite good.

 

 

What To Do

Not much, but enjoy the small town, eat and walk around a bit and take in the nothing ness of the desert area. There are a bunch of old cars around and a very interesting grocery store with lots of oddities in it.
