Why Tenby, Pembrokeshire Wales

 

This is a quaint Welsh town that is worth visiting. Just the colors of the houses and the ebb and the flow of the tide makes it totally worth it. Oh and it may not be so unfamiliar in the future as it was recently featured on the BBC series Sherlock Holmes.

Also, Tenby was one of the places where the boats were moored to pick up the pilots returning home from WWII that could not make to London.

Where

Tenby is located on the southern coast of Wales in the United Kingdom in the county of Pembrokeshire.

How To Get Here

By Train

There is easy train service from most anywhere in the United Kingdom. Check the National Rail Web site for details. The journey time from London is a little under five hours.

By Plane

The closest airport is Cardiff Airport which is a little under two hours drive away. Of course you may fly into the London area airports and then take a train or bus into Tenby.

The following airlines has service to Cardiff Airport (CWL):

Aer Lingus (EI), BH Air (8H), CityJet (WX), Citywing (V9), flybe. (BE), Eastern Airways (T3), Iberia Airlines (IB), KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL), Ryanair (FR) and Vueling (VY).

By Bus

National Express has service into Tenby. It takes between six and seven hours.

 

By Car

If you are already in the region you can take the drive. Just use a service like Google Maps for directions.

Where To Eat

My friend Rich recommends the Dennis Cafe on St. Julian’s Street as the English breakfast is amazing. There are tons of other places to eat as well.

What To Do

Take a walk along Tenby Beach. Make sure you when the tide is in and again when the tide is out. Be mindful of the tide times though.

 

Also, the Tenby Lifeboat station is popular and also free. Go check it out. It’s cool to watch as you can see them launch the lifeboat.

Caldey Island is just offshore and its a popular destination. Boats are boarded from Tenby. Plus, you can check out Castle Beach and the multi-colored homes.

And St. Catherine’s Island, where you can walk to the island when the tide’s out.
